Compared with conventional cutting materials such as high-speed steels, carbides have lower thermal shock resistance and fracture toughness, but they are significantly harder and more temperature-resistant overall.
Since carbide also has a higher abrasive wear resistance in this context, significantly higher cutting speeds of up to 350 m/min can be achieved with HM cutters.
